Romanian NGO directory
After almost two decades since it has come back to existence in Romania, civil society remains one of the least visible actors within the Romanian society. Although recognized by foreign actors and, eventually, by the Romanian public authorities, NGOs still struggle to get full recognition from the general public.
Currently, there is no systematic information on the size and structure of the NGO sector in Romania. Consequently it is very difficult to evaluate the impact of the NGOs as long as there is limited awareness on the scale of the NGOs’ activities, staff and turnovers. Primary information on its dimension and activities is needed in order to bring to light the NGO sector as an important economic and social actor in the Romanian society as well as to contribute to its further development and sustainability.
Goal: The project aims at raising the profile and promoting the values of the NGO sector as important actors in the economic, social and cultural Romanian environment.
Objectives:
The project has three main objectives:
- Create a NGO data base that will provide accurate and up-to-date structured information on the Romanian NGO sector;
- Promote the NGO sector as key player in the Romanian socio-economic life;
- Identify changes and trends in the NGO sector.
Target groups:
The target groups of the project are the nongovernmental associations within civil society, from social service organizations to trade unions, from simple community based organisations to national platforms. However, due to their important role in the civil society, informal non profit groups are also foreseen to be analyzed during the research.
Beneficiaries:
The beneficiaries of the project are the nongovernmental organizations as well as their stakeholders such as citizens, central and local public administration, mass media, business, International donors, etc.

- Activity 2: Elaborating the research final methodology
- Activity 3: Creating the online directory
- Activity 4: Gathering the data
- Activity 5: Conducting awareness campaign for online directory
- Activity 6: Assessing the state of the NGO sector
- Activity 7: Carrying out sectorial analysis
- Activity 8: Organising National Conference
