The right of association is recognized and guaranteed by the Romanian Constitution which is the state fundamental law. Article 37 from the Constitution stipulates for that the citizens can freely associate themselves into political parties, labour unions and in any other forms of association. Associations and foundations, the most representatives nonprofit actors, are ruled by provisions of Government Ordinance No. 26/2000, the framework law in this field.

Through its various activities, CSDF provides both organisations and individuals access to the knowledge and information they need to discover similar organisations, potential Romanian or foreign partners, statistics and data on the non-profit sector, or independent research and publications on management, government policy, or legal issues affecting the sector.

The library

ONGBit - the most extensive database of non-governmental organisations in Romania, with over 4,000 entries containing contact details, legal date of establishment, type of organisation, areas of activity, type and scope of activities. Data on partners, on-going programs and activities are also included. Registration in the database is open to any Romanian legally established organisation and contact details are continuously updated.

Data in ONGBit is drawn from detailed questionnaires sent to over 25,000 legally established NGOs. Inquiries can be made by phone, fax, email or at our offices. For more information, please contact us at acces@fdsc.ro.

Directory of Civil Society in Romania,
edition 2000
- the most comprehensive directory for and about the Romanian non-profit sector, updated and available in print and CD-ROM format. Both formats contain contact details, activities, and on-going projects of NGOs, foundations and labour unions. The CD version allows sort and search for organisations according to multiple criteria. (E.g. key words in the organisation name, county, area of activity, etc.) CD-ROM updates are available periodically.

The library - a reference centre at our office in Bucharest with over 2000 titles on the non-profit sector available in Romanian, English and other languages. Subjects include: NGO related publications, public institutions, social sciences (statistics, demographics, sociology), political science, economic and social policy, international organisations, public administration, legislation, law, legal procedures, finance, accounting and management.
