Special Projects
A study of corruption in Bucharest

Along with its partner Transparency International, CSDF is analysing the level of
corruption in the city of Bucharest. Survey of public opinion, empirical research, and
practical impacts are included in the project. Preliminary results of an opinion poll
conducted in May 2000 are available here. For more information please contact Adrian
Baboi Stroe on email: adrian@fdsc.ro

Participate in Decision Making

"Get Involved in the Decisions That Affect You" is an on-going project
funded by the Open Society Foundation with residents of Bucharest and the local city hall
administration. The project aims to research and evaluate how involved local residents are
in resolving the economic, social, and medical problems in their community. 60 community
leaders from the 6 districts of Bucharest were chosen from 440 petitions received by the
Department of Social Assistance during 1998 to 2000. Through focus groups and interviews
with the leaders, the quality and effectiveness of the social services provided by the
city are evaluated. The study attempts to quantify how involved residents are in the
distribution of essential social services, and a final report with recommendations for the
local administration due in 2001. For more specific information about this project contact
Corina Olteanu at CSDF on email: corina@fdsc.ro.
