Pro Democracy Association, in partnership with Public Information Ministry, runs a program on supporting the law regarding free access to public information in Romania. The program is financed by UNDP. EUROPEAN NEWS

22 European regions have presented their candidacy to compete for designation as The European Region of the Year (TERY) 2005. The regions that aspire to the designation as The European Region of the Year 2005 are as follows: Alentejo (Portugal); Arkhangelsk (Russia); Bacau (Romania); Burgenland (Austria); Buzau (Romania); Chuvash (Russia); Dobrich (Bulgaria); East Border Region (Ireland-Northern Ireland, UK); Ivano-Frankivsk (Ukraine); Kabardino-Balkaria (Russia); Kiev (Ukraine); Lipetsk (Russia); Luhansk (Ukraine); Mykolayiv (Ukraine); Novgorod (Russia); Perm (Russia); Piemonte (Italy); Prahova (Romania); South Bohemian (Czech Republic); Tatarstan (Russia); Volyn (Ukraine); Vrancea (Romania). These regions belong to 10 different countries. Russia (7) is the one from which most candidacies have been presented, followed by the Ukraine (5) and Romania (4). Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Italy, Portugal and the United Kingdom have each submitted one candidacy. The European Region of the Year aims to increase knowledge and recognition of European regional affairs, to make new contributions to regional construction and European integration and, finally, to project the regions designated as The European Region of the Year onto the European and international scene, in all their aspects - social, cultural, economic and tourist. SUMMER SCHOOL

Istanbul Bilgi University (BILGI) is offering a three-week academic program this summer to college/university students from all over the world, interested in learning the state of affairs between two historically, culturally and geographically bound countries, Turkey and Greece. The program, titled Turkey and Greece: Transcending the Past and Embracing the Future, is designed to enable students to understand how the recent positive developments in relations between the two countries may be utilized for overcoming long-standing problems and embracing a better future for close collaboration in many fields ranging from politics and economic relations to art. FELLOWSHIP

The International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL), funded by the United States Agency for International Development, is offering summer fellowships to lawyers, law students, and civil society specialists from Central and Eastern Europe interested in NGO law. Preference will be given to those candidates from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Croatia, or Macedonia whose projects focus on NGO law.  For additional information on ICNL, please visit the website at www.icnl.org. 1) Administrative Assistant (Part Time)

Requirements: Faculty of Accounting ending year student, good understanding of the Romanian Accounting system, fluency in English and Romanian, flexible and pleasant personality.

2) Computer Network Administrator (Part Time)

Requirements: Windows XP & 2000 administration, server Linux administration, LAN, Support the office with the computer network (hardware, software installation), minor interventions for printers and other devices, flexible, pleasant person, able to work in a team

3) Driver/Logistics Coordinator (Full Time)

Requirements: ample driving experience and a Class B Romanian driver license, English language (medium level), ability to work well in a team environment, professional presentation, flexible, willing to work, international organizations working experience is a plus.

The Environmental Partnership for Central Europe Consortium is searching for a person to perform fundraising tasks for the Consortium on the regional level in order to match the endowment challenge grant offered by an American foundation. The fundraiser should raise capital funds for the Consortium members in Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania.
Requirements and skills include:
• University qualification
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent English language skills
• Concern for environmental issues
• Previous experience with volunteers
• Self motivation
• Ability to travel in Europe
• Ability to communicate to a variety of stakeholders
• Good presentation skills
• At least 8 years general work experience.

INTERNATIONAL EVENTS

Central and Eastern European (CEE) Citizens Network - is a network to provide opportunities for grassroots citizens initiatives from the CEE region to learn, exchange experiences and ideas as well as enhance their organizational growth through establishing and managing a partner network among themselves. The main aim of the network is to ensure democratic systems through citizen participation. Democratic systems endure when there is the mutually reinforcing practice and belief of free citizen participation. Between June 12 – 15, the 2nd Training of CEE Citizens Network takes place at Agigea, Romania. The goal of the training is to increase the capacity of the community leaders and civic activists to rise the involvement of citizens in their community development. An international youth conference is going to take place from 19th to 26th of july in Lesjoefors, Sweden. The aim of the survey was to assess perceptions of and knowledge on European Union and EU integration for Albania.
